Design student takes second in statewide competition

KALAMAZOO -- A Western Michigan University interior design student who graduated in April has placed second in a statewide competition.

Katrina Liechty, who is from Washington, Mich., recently took second place in the Michigan International Interior Design Association Portfolio Competition. The competition is held among the top interior design graduates at Michigan universities and design schools and recognizes both design and presentation abilities.

Liechty received a cash prize and certificate at the IIDA annual meeting on May 24 at Integrated Architecture in Grand Rapids. Now living in Kalamazoo, Liechty recently joined Eckert/Wordell Architects of Kalamazoo as an interior designer.

WMU's interior design program is part of the Department of Family and Consumer Sciences.
