Faculty promotions approved by trustees

June 30, 2000

KALAMAZOO -- The promotions of 45 faculty members at Western Michigan University were approved June 23 by the WMU Board of Trustees.

Seventeen faculty members were promoted to the rank of full professor and 25 to associate professor. Three others were promoted to the positions of associate academic career specialist. All professor and associate professor promotions are effective with the beginning of the 2000-01 academic year.

The faculty members and their departments, by the academic rank to which they are being promoted, are:

Professor -- Dr. Christine Browning, mathematics and statistics; Dr. James Butterfield, political science; Dr. Van Cooley, teaching, learning and leadership; Dr. Nancy Eimers, English; Dr. Paul Engelmann, industrial and manufacturing engineering; Dr. Tarun Gupta, industrial and manufacturing engineering; Dr. Gunilla Holm, teaching, learning and leadership; Dr. Emmanuel Kamber, physics; Dr. Sheldon Langsam, accountancy; Dr. Yuri Ledyaev, mathematics and statistics; Dr. Nina Nelson, dance; Dr. Dasha Nisula, foreign languages and literatures; Dr. Richard O'Hearn, music; Dr. William Olsen, English; Dr. Pamela Rooney, business information systems; Dr. Jack Ruhl, accountancy; and Dr. David Smith, music.
