Aug. 2, 2000

KALAMAZOO -- Kathy L. Rix has been promoted to the position of associate registrar at Western Michigan University.

In her new role, Rix will manage the daily operations in the Office of the Registrar, provide counseling to students on registration issues, participate in strategic planning for the office and oversee room scheduling for University courses. She also will serve as a liaison between her office and other University departments. She also will sit on WMU's data administration and warehousing committee, which is devising a new system for housing student information for historical and reporting purposes. Rix replaces Douglas J. VanDenBerg who has left the University for another position.

Rix has served since February 1999 as coordinator for publications, training and special projects in WMU's Office of the Registrar. For three years prior to that appointment she held several posts in the University's Division of Continuing Education, and before joining WMU, she worked for three years as an instructor for Kalamazoo Public Schools Adult and Community Education program. She also held several administrative positions with the Kalamazoo Public Schools between 1987 and 1995.

Rix serves as co-chair of the professional development committee of the Michigan Association of Collegiate Registrars and Admissions Officers and she is a member of the American Management Association. She is a certified professional secretary, and earned her bachelor's degree from Davenport University and an MBA from WMU.
