Broncos take on K College in soccer exhibition
Aug. 21, 2000
KALAMAZOO -- The WMU men's and women's soccer programs will
host the second annual Kalamazoo College Kick-Off on Sunday,
Aug. 27, at the Ed Annen Sports Complex.
Both Bronco squads will take on Kalamazoo College in exhibition
action. The women will play at 1 p.m., followed by the men's
match at 3:30 p.m. Tickets are $2 in advance and $3 at the gate.
Tickets can be purchased at local area businesses or from any
WMU soccer player.
"This is a great opportunity to showcase the high level
of quality collegiate soccer that exists in this community,"
head coach Chris Karwoski said. "Our hope is to not only
give those familiar with the teams the chance to see us in action,
but also introduce our programs to those who may be unfamiliar
with us."
Western Michigan coaches Karwoski (men's) and Mike Haines
(women's), who are both entering their third seasons at WMU,
developed the event a year ago. The Bronco men defeated the Hornets
and the women's team was victorious over Olivet in 1999. Sunday's
meeting in the women's action will mark the first for Haines
against his former team. He guided Kalamazoo to a 32-3-3 record
in 1996-97.
"I am looking forward to the match," Haines said.
"It will be a great opportunity for us to evaluate the team,
and it will be fun to compete against Kalamazoo."
