Broncos fall to Michigan State in overtimeSept. 6, 2000 KALAMAZOO -- The WMU women's soccer team (2-1 overall, 0-0 MAC) played even with Michigan State (5-0) Wednesday afternoon (Sept. 6) at the WMU Soccer Complex, but dropped a tough 1-0 overtime decision to the Spartans in non-conference action. MSU's Kristi Arrington was able to sneak between two Bronco defenders and get her head to a cross from Gina Dawson. Arrington's near post run resulted in the goal, which snuck underneath the cross bar and into the back of the net. Michigan State had numerous opportunities throughout the afternoon, including a pair of shots by Tiffeny Laskowski that hit the cross bar. WMU goalie Megan Ramey had been flawless until that point, making nine saves on 19 Spartan opportunities. The senior dominated defensive corps played its best match of the year, holding the speedy MSU forwards in check for most of the contest. "I was really happy with the way the team came together," head coach Mike Haines said. "We played easily our best defensive game of the year and got a lot of positives out of the match." The Broncos will continue non-league action this weekend at a tournament hosted by Central Michigan. WMU faces Wright State on Friday at 2 p.m. before concluding the week on Sunday versus UW-Milwaukee at 2:30 p.m. For more information, visit the Broncos on the Web at wmubroncos.com.
