Oct. 1, 2000
KALAMAZOO -- Western Michigan University will conduct a Graduate
Program Open House on Wednesday, Oct. 18, for persons contemplating
pursuing a graduate degree.
The event, which is sponsored by the Graduate College, will
take place from 4 to 7 p.m. in the North Ballroom on the second
floor of the Bernhard Center. Refreshments will be provided.
The open house will be a source of information about the numerous
professional, graduate and career development programs offered
through WMU.
Representatives from all of the University departments that
offer graduate programs will be in attendance, providing informational
materials and answering questions. Also on hand will be staff
members from the Office of Student Financial Aid and Scholarships,
Counseling and Testing Services, Career and Student Employment
Services, Teacher Certification, and the Graduate College.
"WMU strives to accommodate everyone who seeks an advanced
degree," says Paula Boodt, director of graduate recruitment
and retention. "Our broad range of programs and services
reflects our commitment to all students, from undergraduates
who move right into a graduate program to working professionals
who return to school years after getting their bachelor's degree."
WMU offers 60 master's degrees, two specialist degrees, 25
doctoral degrees and nine specialized graduate certificate programs
through six of its degree-granting colleges: Arts and Sciences,
Education, Engineering and Applied Sciences, Fine Arts, Haworth
College of Business, and Health and Human Services. Graduate
students make up nearly one-quarter of the University's enrollment.
