WMU hosts Musica Antiqua Russica, Oct. 17
Oct. 3, 2000
KALAMAZOO -- Continuing its practice of bringing music of
the world to Kalamazoo audiences, the WMU School of Music has
collaborated with the Russian Festival of Kalamazoo to present
a performance by Musica Antiqua Russica on Tuesday, Oct. 17.
The concert begins at 7 p.m. in the Dalton Center Recital Hall.
Admission is free.
Founded in St. Petersburg in 1988, the ensemble specializes
in the historical performance of 17th and 18th century Russian
music. Under the group's careful interpretation this genre has
found new life and has become the basis of its repertoire.
Musica Antiqua Russica presents both the rarely heard instrumental
works as well as the more recognized vocal works of the period.
The Oct. 17 performance at WMU will provide West Michigan patrons
the rare opportunity to hear this music interpreted as it was
intended.
WMU violist Igor Fedotov is hosting the ensemble and will
perform as a guest artist on its concert.
