
University Concert Band opens 2000-01 season

KALAMAZOO -- The 80-member University Concert Band from Western
Michigan University's School of Music will open its 200001
concert season on Tuesday evening, Oct. 24. The concert begins
at 8 p.m. in Miller Auditorium. Admission is free.
Conductor John Lychner has programmed works by noted wind
band composers Frank Ticheli, John Philip Sousa, Percy Aldridge
Grainger, and Gustav Holst. The concert will close with an arrangement
of Leonard Bernstein's well known symphonic work, the Overture
to "Candide."
Leslie Rich, a graduate student from Kansas, will conduct
the ensemble in Ticheli's Shenandoah.
