BOWLING GREEN, Ohio -- WMU's women's soccer team is in sole possession of first place in the Mid-American Conference following a 2-1 victory at Bowling Green State University on Sunday (Oct. 1).
With the victory, the Broncos improved to 7-3-1 overall and 4-0-1 in the conference. On Friday (Sept. 29), Western Michigan rallied from a two-goal deficit to remain undefeated in MAC competition with a 2-2 tie versus Toledo at the WMU Soccer Complex.
At Bowling Green, the Broncos fell behind, 1-0, in the 57th minute of play, but got the equalizer just three minutes later when sophomore Mary Gignac scored on a header off a corner kick by freshman Abi Morrell. Freshman Jessica Pattison scored the winning goal with less than four minutes remaining in regulation. Junior midfielder Brandi Buschhausen got the assist on the game winning goal.
Toledo jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first half of Friday's contest in Kalamazoo. Bronco midfielder Gretchen Marker scored on a header off a long kick from Morrell to trim the lead to 2-1. Markey returned the favor at the 86:16 mark, assisting Morrell on the Broncos' second goal.
