
Jazz ensembles present 'Tribute to Swing'

KALAMAZOO -- Western Michigan University's instrumental jazz
ensembles will present their annual "Tribute to the Great
Swing Bands" on Friday, Nov. 17, beginning at 8 p.m. in
the Dalton Center Recital Hall.
The University Jazz Lab Band is directed by Rick Holland,
and the University Jazz Orchestra is led by Trent Kynaston. The
Jazz Orchestra has received national acclaim for its high performance
standards and creative approach to big band jazz. The ensemble's
CDs, Spritely Overdue (1996), Disposable Income
(1997), Blue Miles (1998), and Sweet Tango (1999),
have received rave reviews from the United States to London,
and are available on Sea Breeze Vista Recordings.
Each year the award-winning University Jazz Orchestra and
Jazz Lab Band present a concert of music from the era of the
great swing bands. General admission tickets will be on sale
at the door for $10. Students and seniors will be charged $5.
