
Film society presents local debut of 'Hamlet'

KALAMAZOO -- Michael Almereyda's "Hamlet" will debut
in Kalamazoo on Friday, Nov. 17, in The Little Theatre on WMU's
East Campus. The Western Film Society will screen Hamlet with
six weekend showings, Nov. 17-19. Screenings begin Friday and
Saturday at 7 and 9:30 p.m., and Sunday at 2:30 and 5 p.m.
Starring Ethan Hawke ("Great Expectations"), Julia
Stiles ("10 Things I Hate About You") and Bill Murray
("Charlie's Angels"), Hamlet is a modern day adaptation
of Shakespeare's classic tragedy. This critically acclaimed film
was declared, "Genius," by the Washington Post, "Groundbreaking
work," by the San Francisco Examiner and "Vital and
sharply intelligent," by the New York Times.
In addition to the film, there will be a Shakespeare trivia
contest before each screening with prizes including Hamlet posters
and merchandise from local businesses, including Video Hits Plus
and Western Film Society sponsor Café Noir.
The Little Theatre is located at the corner of Oakland Drive
and Oliver Street. General admission for all shows is $5 for
adults or $3 for students. Free parking is available next to
the building.
