Richard-Allan granted building permit
March 26, 2001
KALAMAZOO -- Construction on a facility to house Richard-Allan
Scientific Inc., the first tenant in Western Michigan University's
Business Technology and Research Park, has been given the green
light by Kalamazoo city building officials, and work at the site
will begin immediately.
A permit was approved today, and the developer, Ridgewood
Partners, has indicated that in order to get on track to meet
timetables originally planned for the project, site work will
begin as early as this afternoon.
"We are eager to get this building project under way and
excited about being the first business partner in this wonderful
development," says Peter Scheu, president of Richard-Allan
Scientific. "It is great to have the opportunity to construct
such a nice facility so close to our current location and to
expand our business within the city of Kalamazoo."
The WMU Business Technology and Research Park is part of a
265-acre development located near the intersection of Parkview
Avenue and Drake Road just three miles south of WMU's central
campus. The complex will be home to WMU's College of Engineering
and Applied Sciences. Infrastructure development has been under
way for several months and construction on the college's paper
and printing science teaching and research facility has begun.
University officials expect to announce additional tenants in
the coming weeks.
"We're rapidly moving into peak construction season and
the site is ready for major projects to begin," says Bob
Miller, WMU associate vice president for community outreach.
"We're happy to see the Richard-Allan project launched and
excited about the kinds of things that will develop over the
next several months."
