Trustees table changes to vehicle registration rates
June 1, 2001
KALAMAZOO -- Vehicle registration rates at Western Michigan
University are expected to rise next fall to help fund substantial
improvements to the University's roadways and parking facilities,
including the construction of two new parking structures.
The proposed increase, tabled May 30 by the WMU Board of Trustees
until its June meeting, would raise vehicle registration rates
for full-time students from $175 to $225 for the 2001-02 academic
year. According to Robert M. Beam, vice president for business
and finance, the increase will help to cover the cost of significant
roadway and parking facility improvements, the operation of the
parking system, and the construction of two new parking structures
at the University's Parkview Campus.
If trustees approve the increase, vehicle registration rates
also will rise for two- and four-wheel motor vehicles during
all semesters and for vehicles parking in the Lawson Ice Arena
lot.
