Experts to discuss high-speed Internet options

KALAMAZOO -- Does your business need high-speed Internet access? Two area experts will discuss the benefits of Digital Subscriber Line Internet access at a Western Michigan University presentation Monday, Oct. 8, in Battle Creek.
Fred Glomb Jr. of CRT Inc. and Rick Gould of JAS Networks Inc. will present "DSL High Speed Internet Access and Increased Productivity in the Wired Office" from 6 to 8 p.m. at WMU-Battle Creek's Kendall Center, 50 West Jackson. Part of a monthly series co-sponsored by WMU's Women's Business Development Center and the Battle Creek Area Chamber of Commerce, the program is free and open to the public.
In their talk, Glomb and Gould will discuss the federal and Michigan Telecommunications Acts and the opening of competition in the telecommunications market; descriptions and comparisons of dial-up, DSL, cable and ISDN connections; how DSL connections can lead to increased productivity and efficiency; and using Internet connection for remote-access workers.
Since 1986, Fred Glomb Jr. has served as president of Battle Creek's CRT Inc., a full-service computer facility. The company provides sales, leasing, equipment service and system consultation for business computer equipment. CRT Inc. specializes in installation, trouble shooting and performance analysis of Local Area Networks, Wide Area Networks and business accounting, as well as hardware and software troubleshooting. Glomb has formal industry certifications from Microsoft, Novell, Citrix, Compaq, Hewlett Packard, Cisco and UNIX.
Rick Gould is general counsel and director of business development for JAS Networks Inc., a provider of Digital Subscriber Line high-speed Internet subscriber service in Southwest Michigan. A licensed attorney for more than 20 years, he has seven years experience as in-house counsel in the telecommunications, Internet and high-speed access arena. Gould is active in trial and appellate work as well as legislative efforts relating to his industry.
