KALAMAZOO -- Fresh from an exciting summer performing in the
U.S. and abroad, Western Michigan University piano professor
Lori Sims will present a recital on Sunday, Sept. 23, beginning
at 3 p.m. in the Dalton Center Recital Hall. Admission is free

The program will include works by Mendelssohn, Rachmaninoff,
and Schubert, as well as etudes by WMU composer C. Curtis-Smith.
This summer Ms. Sims performed the Saint-Saens Concerto, to
critical acclaim, at the Eastern Music Festival in North Carolina,
a festival which also included the likes of guest artists Richard
Stoltzman, the Eroica Trio, and conductor JoAnn Falletta; the
Brahms B-Flat Concerto with the Cape Town Sinfonietta in Cape
Town, South Africa; and at the Internationale Musikfest in Goslar,
Germany. She also performed for the Fontana Festival of Music
and Art in Shelbyville, Mich.
In addition to her performance appearances, Ms. Sims served
as a juror for the Gina Bachauer International Competition in
Salt Lake City, the same competition she won in 1998. She also
presented a solo recital as part of the competition's events.
Her upcoming schedule includes recitals at Bowling Green State
University and for the Chopin Society of Mid-America in Edmond,
Okla., and an appearance as the featured guest artist at the
