All WMU sports canceled or postponed through weekend
Sept. 14, 2001
KALAMAZOO -- The WMU Division of Intercollegiate Athletics
has announced the suspension of the entire week's Bronco sports
schedule in response to national events that began to unfold
Tuesday. Some contests have been postponed to later dates. Others
have been canceled and will not be rescheduled.
The decision to postpone or cancel home and away events was
made by University and athletic department officials. WMU would
have hosted games in softball and women's soccer this weekend.
The remaining sports teams were scheduled for away contests.
The Mid-American Conference asked all member institutions to
honor the requests of this week's opponents with regard to schedule
changes.
"After consulting with representatives from around the
conference and nation, we decided it was appropriate to cancel
our events through the weekend," said Kathy Beauregard,
director of intercollegiate athletics.
Only one makeup date has been announced so far. The women's
soccer match versus Central Michigan, originally scheduled for
today at the WMU Soccer Complex, will be played on Wednesday,
Oct. 10.
Football versus Michigan at Ann Arbor was officially postponed
yesterday. A future date for that game has yet to be determined.
Also canceled or postponed were contests scheduled for Tuesday,
Sept. 11, through Sunday, Sept. 16, involving the WMU teams in
men's and women's cross country, men's and women's soccer, softball
and volleyball.
