Open house set for prospective graduate students
Oct. 3, 2001
KALAMAZOO -- For many people, going to graduate school is
as big a life decision as buying a house or moving to a faraway
city.
To help make the decision easier for prospective graduate
students, Western Michigan University will conduct a Graduate
Program Open House from 4 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 17, in the
North Ballroom of the Bernhard Center.
"Pursuing a graduate degree requires a significant investment
of time and money," notes Paula Boodt, WMU's director of
graduate recruitment and retention in the Graduate College, which
is sponsoring the open house. "People shouldn't make a major
decision like this without getting information first. By attending
our open house, they'll be able to get most of the information
they'll need--in one day and in one place."
Participants will have a chance to investigate their financial
aid options, learn about the many research and internship opportunities
available, and talk with representatives from more than 90 WMU
graduate programs.
In addition, staff members will be on hand from the University's
Career and Student Employment Services, Teacher-Administrator
Certification Office, Counseling and Testing Services, Office
of Student Financial Aid and Scholarships, Office of Research
and Sponsored Programs, and the Graduate College.
While at the open house, participants will be able enjoy refreshments
as well as attend two workshops, "Financing a Graduate Education"
from 4:15 to 5:15 p.m. and "How Your Graduate Degree Can
Maximize Your Potential Earning Capability" from 5:30 to
6:30 p.m. Registration is required for the workshops, which will
be conducted in Room 205 of the Bernhard Center.
WMU offers a wide range of advanced professional programs
and graduate programs, including 62 master's degrees, two specialist
degrees, 25 doctoral degrees and nine graduate certificates in
specialized fields of study.
