March 5, 2002
KALAMAZOO -- Four members of Western Michigan University's
women's basketball team were honored Monday with selection to
All-Mid-American Conference teams for the 2001-02 season.
Sophomore forward Kristin Koetsier from Grandville, Mich.,
was selected to the All MAC first team for the second time in
her career. Karen Deurloo, a senior forward from Grand Rapids,
Mich., was selected to the conference's honorable mention team.
Guards Maria Jilian of Dearborn, Mich., and Casey Rost of St.
Johns, Mich., were chosen to the five-member all-freshman squad.
Koetsier, who missed the 2000-01 season with a knee injury,
was also a first-team choice and the league's Freshman of the
Year for the 1999-2000 season. This season, Koetsier averaged
15.5 points and 7.6 rebounds per game in the regular season,
both of which were among the top five performances in the MAC.
Koetsier guided the Broncos to a third place finish in the MAC
West Division and help increase the team's conference win total
from nine last season to 16 in 2001-02. In league only games,
she was second in the MAC in scoring (16.4 points-per-game) and
third in rebounding (8.4 per game).
