
Alumna joins Detroit area magazine staff

FERNDALE, Mich. -- WMU alumna Shirley A. Clemens has joined
the staff of Big Idea Magazine, a Detroit-area publication for
the communication arts, as events and public relations manager.
In her new position, Clemens is responsible for planning and
public relations for all special events, most notably Big Idea's
annual Creative Expo.
Clemens has six years marketing communications and public
relations experience, as well as a 14-year writing, editorial
and desktop publishing background. Prior to joining Big Idea
she worked on a General Motors Motorsports and Heritage account
team at G-2 Communications of the Bloomfield Hills, Mich.; and
as marketing manager for Cadillac Coffee Company in Madison Heights,
Mich. Clemens also previously served as a marketing coordinator
for publisher Zephyr Press, Inc., of Tucson, Ariz.
Clemens earned a bachelor of arts degree in photography in
1993 and a second bachelor of arts in journalism in 1995, both
from WMU. While a student, she was a four-year member of Western
Herald staff, serving as both a photographer and writer. She
resides in Harrison Township, Mich.
