Volleyball Broncos to scrimmage alumnae
April 16, 2002
KALAMAZOO -- The Western Michigan University volleyball team
will square off against some of the program's all-time greats
in a scrimmage to be held at University Arena Saturday, April
20, at 7 p.m. Admission to the match is free.
Promotional items will be given out and fans will have the
opportunity to see volleyball's new libero rule in place during
match play. The libero is a designated back row player that cannot
serve, attack, or set inside the attack line. The position will
be allowed 12 substitutions.
An autograph session with the players will be held following
the scrimmage. WMU volleyball fans will also have the opportunity
to place or renew season ticket orders for the 2002 season.
Former Broncos scheduled to play include Alberta Griffin,
Kelly Kuharski, M'Myia McQuirter, Monyka Paul and Zakiya Pope--all
members of WMU's 2000 Mid-American Conference
championship and NCAA Tournament team. Also scheduled to compete
against the current squad is former All-MAC player Mandy Whitfield
and four-time letterwinner Heather Sawyer, a member of some of
the top teams in program history and a 1984-93 All-Decade Team
selection.
