Zimmer honored at reception Thursday

KALAMAZOO -- A retirement reception for Christine G. Zimmer, director of health promotion and education in the Sindecuse Health Center, will take place from 4 to 6 p.m. Thursday, June 13, in the Fetzer Center.

Zimmer will retire Aug. 30 following 23 years of service to the University. She began her career at WMU in 1979 as a health educator and was promoted in 1985 to director of the Office of Health Promotion and Education. Zimmer is a certified health education specialist and has been an affiliate assistant professor in the College of Health and Human Services since 1993.

During her tenure, Zimmer chaired the WMU committee on faculty and staff wellness for eight years, and served on several other University, local community and state committees on health-related issues. In 1998, she received the Ruth E. Boyton Award for Distinguished Service to the American College Health Association.

Zimmer holds a bachelor of science in nursing from the University of Michigan and a master's degree in community health education from Central Michigan University.
