Football Broncos add Virginia to 2003 home schedule
Aug. 23, 2002
KALAMAZOO -- Western Michigan University's centennial celebration
will include a showcase football game at Waldo Stadium.
The University of Virginia will travel to Kalamazoo for a
contest versus the host Broncos Sept. 13, 2003. As part of the
three-game arrangement announced this week, the Broncos will
play the Cavaliers in Charlottesville, Va., during the 2005 and
2006 seasons. Virginia is a member of the Atlantic Coast Conference.
"We are extremely excited to bring a quality ACC opponent
such as Virginia into our stadium for the University's 100th
anniversary celebration," said Kathy Beauregard, director
of intercollegiate athletics. "The strength of our non-conference
schedule speaks volumes about our football program."
"With Virginia Tech coming to our place this year and
Virginia lined up for next season, it's a big deal for the Broncos
and their fans," said Gary Darnell, head football coach,
"Waldo Stadium has become, and will continue to be, a special
place to watch a game. We are certainly proud of that fact."
In addition to playing Virginia at home next season, WMU will
travel to Michigan State Aug. 30. The remainder of the Broncos'
2003 schedule has not been finalized.
