Campus Classic kicks off Saturday homecoming festivities

KALAMAZOO -- The annual Campus Classic race/walk is the first event of the day, homecoming Saturday., Oct. 12, with on-site registration beginning at 7 a.m. in the Bernhard Center.

Online registration is closed, but runners and walkers may still register on-site Saturday morning in the Ballroom on the second floor of the Bernhard Center. Those wishing to register Saturday are encouraged to arrive as early as possible.

The 1K Kids' Run and Fun Walk start at 8:30 a.m., followed by the 5K race/walk at 9:15 a.m.
The event, which is expected to draw as many as 1,800 participants this year, attracts students, faculty and staff, alumni, community members and a number of other West Michigan runners.

"The Campus Classic has become one of the most popular homecoming events on campus," says Matt Kurz, associate vice president for university relations.

Now in its fourth year, the certified race course begins in front of the Bernhard Center and stretches 3.1 miles across the WMU campus. Runners, walkers and event volunteers are invited to an awards ceremony, brunch and door prize drawings following the event.
