
Pherigo elected president of international society

KALAMAZOO -- Johnny Pherigo, professor and coordinator of
graduate studies in the WMU School of Music, has been elected
president of the International Horn Society.
The society is the primary professional organization for horn
players, teachers and enthusiasts and has more than 3,600 members
worldwide. The society sponsors workshops, scholarships, composition
commissions and competitions, and publishes The Horn Call, the
journal of the International Horn Society.
Pherigo has previously been editor of The Horn Call and was
host of the 33rd International Horn Symposium held at WMU in
2001. He has been at the Western Michigan University since 1983
and is hornist with the Western Brass Quintet.
The election took place in August at the society's annual
workshop in Lahti, Finland. Pherigo's term runs through 2004.
