University closing Dec. 24 at noon
Dec. 16, 2002
KALAMAZOO -- President Elson S. Floyd announced today that
Western Michigan University will officially close at noon on
Tuesday, Dec. 24, to allow employees more time to share the holidays
with their families.
Nearly all WMU offices will be closed from noon Tuesday, Dec.
24, until 8 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 2. Classes resume Monday, Jan.
6, beginning at 4 p.m.
While most staff members will be released at noon Dec. 24,
a few employees in essential-service areas--such as power plant
and public safety--will be required to work. Pay for these employees
will be determined either by the applicable bargaining unit contract
or the winter closure policy listed in the Staff Compensation
System Employee Handbook.
