
Growing into a new management position

KALAMAZOO -- Finding your footing in a new leadership post
will be the topic when Dr. Virginia Jones, SSJ, speaks Thursday,
Jan. 16, as part of a series of lunchtime workshops sponsored
by Western Michigan University.
Sister Jones, coordinator of the Nazareth Center for Eco-Spirituality
and an instructor at WMU and Siena Heights University, will present
"Growing Into a New Management Position" from 12:15
to 12:45 p.m. in the Federal Room of the Kalamazoo County Chamber
of Commerce building, 346 W. Michigan Ave. Sponsored by WMU's
Women's Business Development Center, the program is free and
open to the public. Attendees are welcome to bring lunch to the
presentation.

In her talk, Sister Jones will discuss the challenges people
face when taking on new leadership positions. She will discuss
how to discover what you know and what you don't know, as well
as how to determine who can help.
A member of the Sisters of St. Joseph, Sister Jones is coordinator
of the Nazareth Center for Eco-Spirituality, where she develops
and facilitates educational programs designed to increase environmental
awareness and teach people to live in harmony with nature. She
is the former vice president of education, health promotion and
mission effectiveness at Borgess Health Alliance, where she also
served for eight years as chair of the biomedical ethics committee.
In addition to her current roles as an instructor at WMU and
Siena Heights, Sister Jones served for 14 years as an administrator
and associate professor of biology at Nazareth College. She earned
her bachelor's degree at Springfield College, and master's and
doctoral degrees at Michigan State University.
WMU's Haworth College of Business established the Women's
Business Development Center in 1999 to offer support to female
professionals and entrepreneurs through training, problem-solving
consultation, current business information and networking opportunities.
