Brass Quintet offers Sunday afternoon performance
Feb. 6, 2003
KALAMAZOO -- The Western Brass Quintet will perform in concert
at Western Michigan University's Dalton Center Recital Hall Sunday,
Feb. 16, at 3 p.m.
Tickets are $10 general admission and $5 for students and
senior citizens and are available by calling the Miller Auditorium
Ticket Office at 269 387-2300 or toll free 800 228-9858.
The Western Brass Quintet is a resident faculty ensemble in
the School of Music at Western Michigan University. Members of
the quintet are Scott Thornburg and Stephen Jones, trumpet; Johnny
Pherigo, horn; Dan Mattson, trombone; and Andrew Miller, tuba.
Founded in 1966, the quintet performs regularly throughout the
region presenting formal recitals and clinics in schools.
The Western Brass Quintet has an excellent international reputation
as performers and promoters of new works for the genre. A New
York Times review raves that, "The Western Brass Quintet
gave unremitting evidence of their individual talents and ensemble
training; chords were precisely weighted and registered, instrumental
blends were sensitively arranged, and there was rarely a tentatively
attacked or released note."
