New CD celebrates Gold Company's 25th anniversary
Feb. 6, 2003
KALAMAZOO -- Western Michigan University's award-winning vocal
jazz ensemble, Gold Company, has released a new compact disc
to mark its 25-year anniversary.
Appropriately titled "25," the release is the ensemble's
sixth CD and contains 15 new tracks, 13 of which were composed
and/or arranged by current or former members of the program.
Gold Company director Dr. Stephen Zegree says "25"
is the best of the group's critically acclaimed releases.
The latest Gold Company recording includes arrangements and
compositions by Gold Company alumni Jennifer Shelton Barnes,
Ryan Billington, Justin Binek, Derek Fawcett, Greg Jasperse and
Dan Myers, as well as current Gold Company member Justin Avery,
Zegree and Duane Davis. Davis directed Gold Company during Zegree's
recent leave of absence to tour with the World Youth Choir. Also
included on "25" are "Country Dances" by
Ward Swingle and an arrangement of "I'll Never Smile Again"
written for Gold Company by legendary vocal jazz arranger Gene
Puerling of the Hi-Lo's and Singers Unlimited fame.
