School of Music sponsors annual Spring Conference
April 2, 2003
KALAMAZOO -- The School of Music at Western Michigan University
presents the 35th annual Spring Conference on Wind and Percussion
Music in Miller Auditorium and the Dalton Center on Friday, April
4.
Each year the conference focuses on a guest composer/conductor
whose works are featured during the conference. This year's featured
artist is composer David R. Holsinger.
The day's activities include concerts by two guest high school
bands and a performance by the David Holsinger All-Star Band,
which will be conducted by the composer. This year's guest bands
are the Olivet High School Band, conducted by David E. Funk,
and the Troy High School Symphonic Band, conducted by Brian P.
Nutting. Olivet will perform at 1 p.m. and Troy at 2:45 p.m.,
both in Miller Auditorium.
The Spring Conference is a day-long event presented each year
to "promote the performance, understanding, and composition
of quality wind and percussion music." The event is free
and is open to music educators, high school and college students,
parents, and anyone interested in band music.
