Bieniek is first Bronco golfer named All-MAC
April 30, 2003
KALAMAZOO -- Senior Erica L. Bieniek was named this past week
to the All-MAC First Team, becoming the first player in the five-year
history of varsity women's golf at Western Michigan University
to be named to an All-Mid-American Conference team.
Bieniek's selection was announced at the MAC championships
held April 25-27 at Walden Ponds Golf Club in Indian Springs,
Ohio. A four-year letter-winner Bieniek owns virtually every
WMU record, including this year's individual scoring average
of 76.6 (for 22 rounds). She won five individual medalist titles
as a senior. At the MAC championships, she led the Broncos and
finished tied for eighth overall with a 54-hole total of 230.
WMU was fifth in the nine-team field for the second year in a
row.
An accounting major from Scottville, Mich., Bieniek was graduated
with a bachelor of business administration degree April 26, but
was unable to attend her commencement ceremony, because of the
MAC championships. To celebrate her graduation, Bieniek shot
a one-under-par 71 on Saturday, which tied for the lowest round
of the day.
