Public invited to Lori Sims recording sessions
June 11, 2003
KALAMAZOO -- Pianist Lori Sims, a professor of music at Western
Michigan University, will record performances for an upcoming
solo CD before a live audience in the Dalton Center Recital Hall
Friday, June 27, at 7:30 p.m. and Saturday, June 28, at 4 p.m.
Both performances are free and open to the public. Those interested
in attending must arrive and be seated before the sessions begin
and will be permitted to leave and enter the hall only during
designated break periods. The audience will also be asked to
remain silent during recording.
The recording is being made possible by a grant from Western
Michigan University's Faculty Research and Creative Activities
Support Fund, and Sims prefers to add the "edge" of
a live audience as she records. The repertoire is a reprise of
the recital Sims presented at the 2002 Irving S. Gilmore International
Keyboard Festival. Works include Waltzes from Opus 16 by Johannes
Brahms; Romances from Op. 10 and the Op. 11 Scherzo by Clara
Schumann; and Brahms' "Variations on a Theme by Handel."
