Women's basketball team takes on national champs
Sept. 8, 2003
KALAMAZOO -- A contest against defending national champion
University of Connecticut is just one of several highlights in
the 2003-04 season schedule for Western Michigan University's
women's basketball team.
Following a pair of exhibition games Nov. 5 and 17, the Broncos
will tip-off the season at the University of Michigan Nov. 21.
WMU travels to Storrs, Conn., Nov. 23 for its contest with UConn.
Western Michigan's home opener is slated for Wednesday, Nov.
26, when Missouri-Kansas City visits University Arena.
Other scheduling highlights include a trip to Phoenix, Ariz.,
for the Arizona State Tournament Dec. 5-6. WMU also has non-conference
contests with Illinois State, North Carolina, Utah State, Detroit,
Purdue, and Montana.
"I feel our non-conferene schedule is very tough, but
it will prepare us for the conference race," said head coach
Ron Stewart.
The MAC schedule allows the Broncos to play at home in the
final two weeks of February as conference tournament seedings
are determined. WMU will play eight conference games at home
including match ups with conference rivals Ball State and Eastern
Michigan.
"Our team has many goals that relate to performance in
the Mid-American Conference," said Stewart. "Our January
and February schedule is fair and will allow us to compete at
a high level if we are prepared and ready to defend our conference
title each night."
