
Klass and Joyce get paper patent

KALAMAZOO -- A patent for a paper technology was recently
granted to Dr. Margaret K. Joyce and Charles P. Klass, both members
of the paper engineering, chemical engineering and imaging faculty
at Western Michigan University.
Joyce is an assistant professor of paper and printing science
and a researcher with the Center for Coating Development, and
Klass is an adjunct professor and president of Klass Associates
of Radnor, Pa. U.S. Patent 6,616,748 is assigned to ZO Resources
LLC, the sponsor of the research that led to the patent. The
new manufacturing technology improves the quality and affordability
of coated ink jet and digital imaging papers. It also improves
the properties of coated paper and paperboard for flexographic
and water-based gravure printing.
