"Lend Me a Tenor" staged in Shaw Theatre
Oct. 1, 2003
KALAMAZOO -- University Theatre presents one of Ken Ludwig's
hilarious farces, "Lend Me a Tenor," for seven performances
Oct. 9-18 in Laura V. Shaw Theatre at Western Michigan University.
"Lend Me A Tenor" recounts a gala performance at
Cleveland's Grand Opera Company, at which the star performer,
the world-famous Tito Merelli, arrives late and finds himself
secretly replaced by an office assistant. But the masquerade
continues after the curtain comes down, at the expense of the
two women who adore the star.
Directed by James Daniels, professor of theatre, "Lend
Me A Tenor" is one of the best comedic plays written in
the 1990s. On Broadway, it was nominated for seven Tony Awards,
including best play, and won two Tony's, four Drama Desk Awards
and three Outer Critics Circle Awards. Audiences have loved this
tale of an extravagant singer, his lingerie-clad leading lady,
and the poor lad trapped in between them.
The performers include WMU seniors Alex Goodman, Stacie Hadgikosti,
Dominic Hester, and Lana Hubbard; juniors Tricia Berry, Jeffrey
Fauver, Katrina Morris, and Prescott Seymour. The designers include
seniors Sara Broadhead (lighting) and Linda Ward (scenery);
and junior Joe Wilhelm (sound).
Performances are Thursday through Saturday, Oct. 9-11 and
16-18, at 8 p.m. and Sunday, Oct. 12, at 2 p.m. Seating is reserved.
An opening night reception sponsored by the Millennium Restaurant
Group will take place after the Oct. 9 performance. A post-show
discussion with the director and the cast is scheduled for Oct.
12.
