University Symphony Orchestra performs Mozart

Nov. 4, 2003

KALAMAZOO -- The Western Michigan University Symphony Orchestra, under the direction of Bruce Uchimura, will present a concert featuring compositions of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart beginning at 3 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 9, in the Dalton Center Recital Hall. The concert is free and open to the public.

The overture to the opera "The Magic Flute" ("Die Zauberflöte") will open the program. The orchestra welcomes guest violin soloist Ivan Chan for the "Violin Concerto No. 3 in G Major." Chan is first violinist of the Miami String Quartet and violin professor at Florida International University and Kent State University. He is a previous winner of the Stulberg International String Competition and a prizewinner in the Indianapolis Violin Competition. The final piece on Sunday's concert will be the "Symphony No. 40 in G Minor," one of Mozart's most mature works and a signature composition.
