
University Symphony Orchestra performs Mozart

KALAMAZOO -- The Western Michigan University Symphony Orchestra,
under the direction of Bruce Uchimura, will present a concert
featuring compositions of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart beginning at
3 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 9, in the Dalton Center Recital Hall. The
concert is free and open to the public.
The overture to the opera "The Magic Flute" ("Die
Zauberflöte") will open the program. The orchestra
welcomes guest violin soloist Ivan Chan for the "Violin
Concerto No. 3 in G Major." Chan is first violinist of the
Miami String Quartet and violin professor at Florida International
University and Kent State University. He is a previous winner
of the Stulberg International String Competition and a prizewinner
in the Indianapolis Violin Competition. The final piece on Sunday's
concert will be the "Symphony No. 40 in G Minor," one
of Mozart's most mature works and a signature composition.
