Thirty-three faculty members granted sabbatical leaves

KALAMAZOO --A total of 33 Western Michigan University faculty members were granted sabbatical leaves Dec. 12 by the WMU Board of Trustees.
Granted sabbatical leaves to be taken during the 2004-05 academic year were: Dr. Hideko Abe, associate professor of foreign languages; Dr. Sandra L. Borden, associate professor of communication; Dr. Steven E. Butt, associate professor of industrial and manufacturing engineering; Dr. Susan Caringella-MacDonald, professor of sociology; Dr. Michael J. Chiarappa, associate professor of history; Dr. John A. Clark, associate professor of political science; Dr. Sime Curkovic, associate professor of management; Dr. Thomas W. Gorczyca, associate professor of physics; Dr. Edward L. Harkness, professor of art; Dr. Keith M. Hearit, associate professor of communication; Dr. James M. Hillenbrand, professor of speech pathology and audiology; Dr. Rand H. Johnson associate professor of foreign languages; Dr. Vyachesla G, Karpov, associate professor of sociology; Dr. Kathleen M. Kline, associate professor of mathematics; Dr. Michelle Kominz, associate professor of geosciences; Dr. Christopher M. Korth, professor of finance and commercial law; Dr. Ashlyn K. Kuersten, associate professor of political science; Dr. Mary D. Lagerwey, associate professor of nursing; Dr. William W. Liou, associate professor of mechanical and aeronautical engineering; and Dr. John Lychner, associate professor of music.
Sabbatical leaves were also approved for: Dr. Gary Mathews, professor of social work; Dr. F. William McCarty, professor of finance and commercial law; Dr. Lynn Nations Johnson, professor of teaching learning and leadership; Dr. James R. Palmitessa, associate professor of history; Dr. Srdjan Petrovic, associate professor of mathematics; Dr. Michael S. Pritchard, professor of philosophy; Dr. Nancy M. Schullery, associate professor of business information systems; Dr. Roger Y. Tang, professor of accountancy; Dr. John A. Tanis, professor of physics; Dr. Gwen A. Tarbox, associate professor of English; Dr. Bruce J. Uchimura, professor of music; and Dr. Huizhong Zhou, professor of economics.
