WMU performance benefits Sisters of St. Joseph

Dec. 8, 2003

KALAMAZOO--The Sisters of St. Joseph of Nazareth, Mich., have received $6,159 donated by audiences for "Late Nite Catechism," which was staged at Western Michigan University's Shaw Theatre earlier this fall.

Eileen Rutten and Sister Janet Fleischhacker of the Sisters of St. Joseph accepted a check from William Biddle, executive director of Miller Auditorium, which sponsored the local performances of "Late Nite Catechism." In each city they tour, the cast of the show selects a local convent retirement home to recieve contributions solicited from the show's audiences. Nuns are not covered under any retirement plan and are not eligible for any benefits, including Social Security.
