
Concert Band performs Sunday at Miller Auditorium

KALAMAZOO--Conductor John Lychner and the University Concert
Band present a free concert at 3 p.m. Sunday, March 28, in Miller
Auditorium at Western Michigan University.
The concert will begin with Glenn Cliff Bainum's wonderful
transcription of "Polka and Fugue" from the opera "Schwanda,
the Bagpiper" by Jaromir Weinberger. It will be followed
by a performance of "Sleep" by Eric Whitacre, who will
be the featured composer for this year's WMU Spring Conference
on Wind and Percussion Music.
Graduate assistant Matthew Lefebvre will conduct "The
Klaxon," a crowd-pleasing march by Henry Fillmore. The concert
also will include "Fantasies on a Theme by Haydn" by
Norman Dello Joio and "Russian Christmas Music" by
Alfred Reed.
