Trustees name BTR Park road, approve Asylum Lake agreement
April 19, 2004
KALAMAZOO--Acting at their April 16 meeting, Western Michigan University trustees approved several items related to the Business Technology and Research Park and the University's nearby Asylum Lake property.
Members of the Board of Trustees approved the name "Tech Circle" for a recently completed cul-de-sac street in the Business Technology and Research Park. They also authorized the conveyance of that street to the city of Kalamazoo, and WMU officials will execute the documents necessary to make Tech Drive a public street.
In other park-related action, trustees signed off on a Declaration of Conservation Restrictions and a Preserve Management Plan for the Asylum Lake Property, which is located adjacent to the park. WMU administrators have been meeting for some time with neighborhood organizations and groups with an interest in the property, in accordance with the University agreement recommending the establishment of the BTR park. The final documents, which represent a successful University-community collaboration, call for the Asylum Lake property to be preserved as open space to be used for passive recreational purposes.
