Poole honored at retirement gathering

KALAMAZOO--Dr. Howard R. Poole, a professor of educational studies at Western Michigan University, will be honored for his 31 years of service to the University at a reception Friday, April 16, on the 10th floor of Sprau Tower. Members of the campus community and friends are invited to stop by between 10:30 a.m. and 12:30 p.m.
After earning bachelor's, master's and doctoral degrees from Purdue University, Poole came to WMU in 1973 as an associate professor of instructional communication and head of the Office of Instructional Development. Beginning in 1983, he managed training and sales programs for Project EXCITE, a new initiative to promote use of personal computers by faculty, staff and students.
Poole was named director of the Division of Academic Services in 1989, with supervision of media services, instructional technology and public radio station WMUK. He returned to the faculty in 1994 as a professor of educational studies and since then has been active in a variety of education technology initiatives, including the Consortium for Outstanding Achievement in Teaching with Technology.
Poole's retirement is effective April 26. The Sprau Tower gathering to honor Poole is sponsored by the Department of Educational Studies.
