Beach Boys perform classics at Miller Auditorium

Aug. 25, 2004

KALAMAZOO--Headed by founding member Mike Love, the Beach Boys present a rich history of hits, including "I Get Around," "Help Me Rhonda," "California Girls," and "Kokomo" in a Miller Auditorium concert at Western Michigan University Saturday, Sept. 18, at 8 p.m.

Love's role as the band's frontman sometimes overshadows his stature as one of rock's foremost songwriters. "Surfin'," the Beach Boys' first hit came from his pen. With his cousin, Brian Wilson, Love wrote the classics "Fun, Fun, Fun," and the Grammy nominated "Good Vibrations." Years later, he showed he still had the lyrical chops by co-writing the chart-topping "Kokomo."

In addition to Love (lead vocals) and Beach Boy veteran Bruce Johnston (vocals/keyboards), Mike Kowalski (drums), Adrian Baker (guitar/vocals), Chris Farmer (bass/vocals), Tim Bonhomme (keyboards/vocals), John Cowsill of the Cowsills (keyboards/vocals/percussion) and Scott Totten (guitar/vocals) round out the band.

Tickets for the Sept. 18 Beach Boys concert range from $27 to $42 and can be ordered by calling the Miller Auditorium Ticket Office at (269) 387-2300 or toll-free (800) 228-9858, or online at <www.millerauditorium.com>.
