Joseph H. Gill

Joseph H. Gill, associate professor emeritus of mechanical engineering at Western Michigan University, died Aug. 29 in Kalamazoo. He was 85.

Gill was a WMU faculty member from 1965 until his retirement in 1985. Prior to coming to the university, he was employed by Bendix Corp.

In addition to his WMU teaching responsibilities, Gill worked on research projects funded by the National Science Foundation. He also worked on the design of an orbital research laboratory at the Marshall Space Flight Center in Huntsville, Ala., and the design of a large cargo airship at the Johnson Space Center in Houston. In addition, he was a visiting scientist at Stanford University and the University of Missouri-Columbia.

Gill received an undergraduate degree in mechanical engineering from Tri-State University and two master's degrees in engineering from Michigan State University.
