David Guerrier trumpet recital set for Dalton Center

KALAMAZOO--Young Concert Artists Series winner David Guerrier performs in a trumpet recital Tuesday, Feb. 8, at 8:15 p.m. in the Dalton Center Recital Hall at Western Michigan University.

Tickets for the Guerrier recital are $10 and available through the Miller Auditorium Ticket Office and at the door. Students and senior citizens may purchase tickets for $5. All seating is general admission.

Guerrier won the first Young Concert Artists European Auditions held in Paris, and he then won the 2003 Young Concert Artists International Auditions in New York. Guerrier also was awarded the Saint Vincent College Concert Series Prize and The John and Esther Browning Memorial Prize.

Born in 1984 in Pierrelatte, France, Guerrier began to study the trumpet there with Serge Vivares at age 7. He soon began to win competitions, including gold medals in the national music schools of Villeurbanne and Aix-en-Provence. He recently captured first prize at the Munich International Music Competition of the ARD, the first trumpeter to win since Maurice Andr won it in 1963.

Guerrier won First Prize in the 2000 Maurice Andr International Trumpet Competition in Paris and First Prize in the 2002 International Trumpet Guild Competition in New York. At age 13, Guerrier won First Prize in the Markneukirchen International Trumpet Competition in Germany, and the following year he won First Prize in the Porcia International Competition in Italy.
