Western Winds in free Dalton concert Wednesday
March 18, 2005
KALAMAZOO--The Western Winds, under the direction of Robert Spradling, will give a free performance Wednesday, March 23, at 8:15 p.m. in the Dalton Center Recital Hall at Western Michigan University.
The concert opens with a relatively obscure work by Mozart, the "Divertimento No. 3 in E-Flat Major," K.166 for pairs of oboes, English horns, clarinets, French horns, and bassoons. Graduate conducting assistant Matthew Westgate will lead the ensemble in a suite from Kurt Weill's "Threepenny Opera," and a new setting by Joseph Kreines of old American folk songs for brass and percussion will conclude the evening.
The Graduate Brass and Wind Quintets will also present works to complete the evening's performance.
