WFS presents area debut of "The Sea Inside"

April 14, 2005

KALAMAZOO--Western Film Society presents the area debut of Academy Award winner "The Sea Inside" with six screenings from Friday through Sunday, April 15-17, in the Little Theatre at Western Michigan University.

Showtimes are Friday and Saturday at 7 and 9:30 p.m. and Sunday at 2:30 and 5 p.m. General admission is $5 and $3 for students.

"The Sea Inside" is Alejandro Amenabar's gripping drama about dying with dignity. Javier Bardem gives a powerful performance as 55-year-old Ramon Sampedro, a man who has spent more than 25 years confined to a bed following a neck injury he sustained as a young man. After reflecting on his life, Sampedro petitions for euthanasia. His family and the government quickly become involved and take sides for and against his decision.

Winner of the Grand Jury Prize at the 2004 Venice Film Festival, "The Sea Inside" also won the Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film. The film is presented in Spanish with English subtitles.

The Little Theatre is located at the corner of Oakland Drive and Oliver Street on Western Michigan University's East Campus. Free off-street parking is located behind the theatre.
