Lost book fines are substantial

April 16, 2005

KALAMAZOO--Western Michigan University students and other patrons of the University Libraries need to be aware that charges for overdue items at the end of spring semester are substantial, according to David McKee, associate professor and head of library access services.

Materials due by the end of spring semester that are not returned by Friday, April 22, will be subject to "lost item" charges, which are increasing to a minimum of $75 per lost item, plus a $15 processing fee. The processing fee will not be refunded, even if the item is subsequently returned.

Outstanding library fines must be paid before a student can register for additional classes or graduate from the university.
