Retirements of 14 faculty and staff approved

KALAMAZOO--The retirements of three faculty members and 11 staff members were approved by the Western Michigan University Board of Trustees at its June 29 meeting. Trustees also accepted the resignations of two faculty members and four staff members.

The faculty members retiring are doing so with emeriti status. Their names, positions, years of continuous service and effective dates of retirement are: Dr. Alonzo E. Hannaford, associate dean of the College of Education and professor of educational studies, 35 years, effective April 10, 2005; Dr. David K. Isaacson, professor of libraries, 33 years, effective Jan. 6, 2006; and Dr. William R. Wiener, dean of the Graduate College and professor of blindness and low vision studies, 19 years, effective July 8, 2005.

The staff members retiring all have effective dates in 2005. They are: Dorothea I. Barr, office assistant in political science, 37 years, effective June 30; Sherry K. Bate, administrative specialist in the College of Fine Arts, 35 years, effective June 19; Margaret E. Chapman, office associate in mathematics, 31 years, effective May 31; June M. Conkin, custodian in Physical Plant Custodial Support Services, 17 years, effective Aug. 31; Griselda Daniel, assistant to the dean of the Graduate College, 27 years, effective June 30; Helen M. Horn, budget specialist in the Office of the Vice President for Academic Affairs, 37 years, effective June 19; Ed Killingsworth, manager of Physical Plant's Maintenance Services, 13 years, effective July 31; Dr. John E. Martell Jr., assistant dean of the Lee Honors College, 21 years, effective June 30; Marcello Ohs, functional manager for the Student Information System project, 10 years, effective June 5; Carolyn L. Parker, office assistant in the College of Education, 14 years, effective July 31; and O'Ryan Rickard, manager of the Western Herald in the Division of Student Affairs, 23 years, effective June 30.

The faculty members resigning are: Dr. William F. Jackson, professor of biological sciences, effective April 30, 2005, and Dr. Eric Webb, assistant professor of foreign languages, effective July 31, 2005. Staff members whose resignations were accepted were Melissa L. Bourke, assistant vice president for legislative affairs, effective June 30, 2005; Kenneth J. DeVries, associate vice president for development, effective June 24, 2005. Jerry George, director of development for the Division of Intercollegiate Athletics, effective May 26, 2005; and Amber MacKenzie, director of development for the Haworth College of Business and the College of Health and Human Services, effective, July 1, 2005.
