Trustees approve six retirements

KALAMAZOO--The retirements of three faculty members and three staff members were approved by the Western Michigan University Board of Trustees at its Sept. 16 meeting. Trustees also accepted the resignations of six faculty members and two staff members.
All of the faculty members who are retiring are doing so with emeriti status. Their names, positions, years of continuous service and effective dates of retirement are: Dr. Gregory W. Boothroyd, professor of university counseling, 35-1/2 years, effective Jan. 1, 2006; Dr. Sandra J. Edwards, professor of occupational therapy, 32 years, effective April 9, 2006; and Dr. Judith F. Stone, professor of history, 20 years, effective April 9, 2006.
The staff members retiring are: David French, electrician in physical plant-maintenance services, 10-1/2 years, effective Dec. 31, 2005; Linda K. Head, first cook, Valley #2 Dining Service, 26 years, effective Oct. 31, 2005; and Barbara Shouse, director of international student and scholar services, 30 years, effective Jan. 31, 2006.
The faculty members resigning are: Dr. Dimiter G. Angelov, assistant professor of history, effective Dec. 4, 2005; Alvaro Correa, master faculty specialist in the Department of Industrial Design, effective July 31, 2005; Dr. Jaume Franquesa, assistant professor of management, effective Aug. 29, 2005; Dr. Maria K. Lapinski, assistant professor of communication, effective July 30, 2005; Dr. Karen H. Morin, professor of nursing, effective Dec. 31, 2005; and Dr. Aletta Zietsman-Thomas, assistant professor of physics, effective Sept. 1, 2005.
The staff members resigning are: Dr. Margaret M. Bernhard, interim vice provost of Extended University Programs, effective Sept. 16, 2005, and Dr. Lawrence T. Potter Jr., director of the Africana Studies Program and associate professor of Africana studies, effective Aug. 1, 2005.
