Collegium Musicum performs at Cathedral of Christ the King

KALAMAZOO--Western Michigan University's early music ensemble, Collegium Musicum, will present "English Music of the Tudor and Jacobean Masters, 1550 to 1700" Tuesday Nov. 15, at 8:15 p.m. in the Cathedral of Christ the King, 2600 Vincent Ave., Kalamazoo. Admission is free and the public invited.

The concert will feature the music of Tallis, Byrd, Tomkins, Gibbons and Purcell performed by the 24-member Collegium Chorus and 12-member Collegium Orchestra playing period instruments such as harpsichord, violas da gamba and recorders. Among the pieces performed will be anthems, consort songs, fantasias, In nomines and dance music.

Collegium Musicum is directed by Matthew Steel, WMU associate professor of music.
