Krawutschke leads international translators
Feb. 2, 2006
KALAMAZOO--Translation specialists from 51 nations met in Finland last fall and elected Dr. Peter W. Krawutschke, professor of foreign languages at Western Michigan University, as the president of the Federation of International Translators.
Krawutschke will head the organization for three years, until the next world congress is held in Shanghai. That event also will mark the completion of FIT's work with China to prepare for the 2008 Olympic Games by helping that nation standardize its translation and public signage.
Krawutschke, who also currently serves as the treasurer of the American Translators Association, is a German language specialist, who has been a WMU faculty member since 1967.
